The Risen Conqueror

I lift my eyes to see the risen conqueror
Declared in power to be the Son of God
Who bore the curse of Adam’s disobedience
Who brings unnumbered blessings by his blood
The angels sing in joyful adoration
For death is swallowed up in victory
And countless souls long held in death’s dominion
Walk with their Saviour on the way of life set free

Long lay our world in sombre shades of darkness
The light extinguished and all comfort gone
Only the flickering flame of ancient promises
Sustained the hope that light would be reborn
And then he came the Hope of every Nation
With power to still that restless storm of old
And oh his love to plumb such depths of darkness
And rise triumphant with me safely in his hold

I do not live but Jesus lives within me
By grace I’m raised and sit with him on high
His power at work to fit me for the glory
Of everlasting resurrection life
Until that day I’ll walk in faith and holiness
A glorious joy empowers each step I take
For soon I’ll see, I’ll see my risen Saviour!
The one I love, I’ll love forever face to face

Now unto Christ the Son of God who loved me
And to the Father whose embrace awaits
And to the Spirit, Lord of new creation
We bring our ransomed lives, our sacrifice of praise
